Mr. Joseph Lamar Malphurs, age 86, of Bland, Florida passed away peacefully on October 27, 2020 at the North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. He was born on August 12, 1934 to the late York Lanier Malphurs and Huldah Rivers Malphurs. He was a lifelong resident of Bland and a 1953 graduate of Alachua High School. Mr. Lamar was a farmer and a cowboy who loved his horses and cow dogs. He was a founding member of the Union County Riding Club and a member of New Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years as a Deacon. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol Brown Malphurs; his parents, York and Huldah; and brother, Tommy Malphurs.
Mr. Malphurs is survived by his sons, Joey (Greg) Malphurs and Tony (Becky) Malphurs all of Bland; grandchildren, Zeb Bennett, Macy Malphurs, and Zeke Malphurs all of Bland; sisters, Faye Vaughn of High Springs and June Register of Bland; sister in law, Peggy Malphurs of Bland; numerous extended family also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Malphurs will be held on Sunday, November 1, at 3:00 pm at the New Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 2:00 pm inside the church.
