Mr. Winston Delano Kelley, age 80, of Brooker, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2021 at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. He was born on September 21, 1940 in Brooker to Odis Clyde and Doris Sowell Kelley. Winston was a graduate of Bradford County High School, class of 1958. While in school, he began working for Florida Power and Light. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he would serve 4 years. After his service, he returned home and went back to work for FPL and would eventually retire from there. Winston loved to fly and obtained his pilot’s license. He was licensed to fly twin engine planes but his favorite to fly were single engine planes. He also loved fishing, snow skiing, traveling, and of course, boiled peanuts. Winston is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Caroline Dyal.

Winston is survived by his wife, Ms. Arthenia “Verdene” Kelley of Brooker; his children, Dion Kelley of Brooker, and Serena (George) Hatok of North Carolina; one grandson, Colton Patrick Kelley serving in the United States Navy; his siblings, Roswell (Alma) Kelley of Brooker, Charles Kelley of Waldo, Lenox Kelley of Ormond Beach, Jerome (Robin) Kelley of Brooker; and Dottie Sue (Terry) Cranford of Branford; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

A funeral service to honor Mr. Winston’s life will be held on Monday, April 19, at 12:00 pm at Brooker Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 11:00 am at the church. His interment will follow at Dedan Cemetery in Brooker. Rev. Terry Cranford will be officiating the services.
