William "Ned" Henry Hicks

Mr. William Henry (Ned) Hicks, of High Springs, entered heaven on his 96^th birthday on October 15^th at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. He was born the baby of 12 in Stanley, AL on October 15, 1926, to Plinnie and Lottie Hicks. In 1933, his family moved to Brooker, FL in 1933 and Ned called it home for most of his life. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Army and proudly served our country in WWII. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Madge and they spent 63 wonderful years together. In 1959, Ned became Postmaster in Brooker. Ned enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He and his wife enjoyed the mountains so much, they decided to move to their mountain home permanently in the early nineties. After his wife’s passing, Ned moved back to Florida and lived with his sons. He was a faithful God-fearing man and member of the Church of Christ. Above all else, Ned enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Ned is preceded in death by his wife, Madge Hicks; parents, Plinnie and Lottie Hicks; 11 siblings and great-granddaughter Ayla.

Ned is survived by his sons, William R. (Mary) Hicks of Brooker, Larry (Cindy) Hicks of High Springs, and Plen Hicks of Kingsbury, TX; his grandchildren, Lee (Tiffany), Hannah (Matt), James (Amber), Katie (Christian), and Dwight (Roselyn); great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Whitney, Arington, Caleb, Joshua, Esther, Alina, and Selene; and a great-great-grandson, Walker.

A Memorial service to honor Mr. Hicks will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 27^th at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 12:30pm.
