Walter Norman Avinger

Mr. Walter Norman Avinger, age 63, of Fort White, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born on July 26, 1955, in Sante Fe, Florida, to the late Noel Avinger and Ms. Mary Dampier Avinger. After school, Walter began driving trucks and would end up driving for over 30 years, mainly for Pritchett Trucking, out of Lake Butler, Florida. He married the love of his life, the late Cheryl Avinger, and they shared 40 years of marriage until her passing in 2016. In his spare time, he loved to do any and all types of fishing. He was also a mechanic and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dampier Avinger; father, Noel Avinger; son, James Joseph Avinger; and brother, Raymond Avinger.
Mr. Avinger is survived by his daughter, Michelle "Flossie" Lynn (Ben) Smith of New Salem, PA; mother, Mary Dampier Raulerson of Lake Butler, FL; special family member, James (Charri) Rhodes of Alachua, FL; nine grandchildren, Brandon, David, Joseph, Leiland, Abigail, and Brantley Smith all of New Salem, PA, Patti Davis of New Salem, PA, Madison and Aaliyah Rhodes of Alachua, FL; and two sisters, Norma Howard of Lake Butler, FL and Violet Marie (Kevin) Sumner of Providence, FL. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Avinger will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at 11:00am, at Archer Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00am (one hour before the service) at the funeral home. His interment will be at Antioch Cemetery in LaCrosse, FL.
