Virginia Bronease Dampier

December 24, 1945 — October 22, 2025

Gainesville

Virginia Bronease Dampier, a beacon of love and laughter, left this world on October 22, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Gainesville, Florida. Born on December 24, 1945, at home in Mayo, Florida, she graced this earth with a jovial spirit, embodying a blend of spunk and grace that touched the lives of all who crossed her path.

While also taking care of her home and family, Bronease worked at General Electric in Alachua, Florida for many years. Following the closure of the company, her journey took her to the University of Florida for several years, followed by her retirement in 2012.

Bronease loved the Lord and never wavered in her faith to Him. She always had an open home to anyone in need. In her spare time, Bronease enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking, spending time with family, and participating with friends in Bible Study. She was active in her church and especially enjoyed the gospel hymns.

Bronease was an irreplaceable matriarch, deeply cherished by her family. She is survived by her children: Jerri Lynne (Dale) Nichols, Daphne Dampier, Anita Kappele, Lyvonne (Doug) Johnson, Daryl (Audrey) Duke, and daughter-in-law, Karen Duke; her grandchildren, Kristi (Dave) Burke, Isabelle Nichols, Lorelei Johnson, Ceilidh Johnson, Chelsea (Keiton) Stender, Isabella Kappele, Jack Duke, Chase (Katie) Thomas, Dom Kappele, Jacob (Ashley) Hunter, and Clint Duke. Bronease was delighted with the addition of great-grandchildren Emery Hunter, Beckham Stender, Hayden Duke, and expected twins Jett and Tripp Thomas.

Bronease is reunited with her parents, Byron and Maggie Wilder; her husband of 35 years, Eugene Dampier; her son, Duane Duke; her grandchild Will Duke; sister Mildred Smith, and her brother Layman Wilder.

Bronease enjoyed making others laugh, a testament to her character that adorned every conversation and gathering. Her playful wit and warmth enveloped those around her, creating a sanctuary of joy and kindness.

We will gather to honor Bronease’s remarkable life on October 30, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
