Vernon Dukes, age 82, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness. Born on December 23, 1942, in Worthington Springs, Florida, Vernon lived a life full of hard work.
For 40 years, Vernon dedicated himself to the Department of Corrections, where he took pride in his career and truly enjoyed every day he was there. He was a plainspoken man who took great pride in everything he did. Beyond his career, Vernon had a passion for farming. He loved his cows, spending many hours tending to them. His tinkering came in handy when he would find a good deal, especially if it was an antique tractor. If it was a good bargain, you could count on Vernon to strike while the iron was hot.
Vernon was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful marriage of 63 years with his beloved wife, Beatrice Dukes. Together, they raised two daughters, Susan White married to Robert, and Tina Gray married to Ralph. His family brought him immense joy and pride, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Vernon's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Shawn White with Summer, Jered White with Madison, Trista Agner-Hartranft with Deborah, and Sawyer Agner. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Waylon, Brantley, Case, Walker, Ivey, and Archer, and he adored watching them grow.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Will and Margie Dukes, as well as his siblings, Betty Cole and Jessie Will Dukes.
