Vasco "Shack" Godwin, age 91, passed away on April 21, 2024, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. He was born in Sanderson, FL, on January 24, 1933, to the late Wiley and Calley Brannen Godwin. He dedicated 35 years to Owens Illinois, later PCA, as heavy equipment operator. Shack was known for his quiet personality and love for hunting and fishing. Shack loved the Lord and on Easter of 1979 he joined the Lake Butler Church of God. He was later baptized on July 4th of that year in Dowling Lake. His commitment to his Savior, family, and work defined his legacy. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Lori Ann Young; and 8 siblings.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Bertie Crews Godwin; sons, Stephen Godwin (Danell) and Fredrick Young; grandchildren Allison Young, Phillip Young, Stephanie Godwin, Adam Young, and Marcus Godwin (Makayla); great-grandchild Jaycee Young; a numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to honor and celebrate Shack's life will be held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on April 24, 2024, starting at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at Swift Creek/Mt. Zion Cemetery.
