Thad “Lagree” Cason passed away peacefully and on his own terms on October 14, 2026, at Plantation Oaks Assisted Living. He was born on June 8, 1941, in Ft. White, Florida.
Mr. Cason served proudly in the United States Navy and went on to spend a large portion of his life working as a Post Master with the United States Postal Service. He was known as a godly and faithful man, simple in the best way, deeply family-oriented, and hardworking. He took pride in being the best person he could be and lived with a steady devotion to his faith, his work, and the people he loved. He was also a longtime member of Spring Ridge Church of God and recently was a member of the Victory Springs Baptist Church, where he was welcomed and loved dearly.
Outside of work, Lagree found joy in the things that brought him peace and purpose. He loved to fish and to raise German Short Hair Pointer puppies. He was especially proud of writing a thoughtful book on the Book of Revelation, titled "Unveiling the Mystery of Revelation", a work that reflected both his faith and the care he gave to matters important to him.
Lagree shared 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Cason. Her death left a deep sorrow in his life, and those who knew him understood how profoundly he loved her.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Becky) Lee Cason and Keith (Donna) Cason, and by his daughter, Kim (Bill) Young. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and memories he poured into his family throughout his life, a lasting example of faithfulness and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Cason; his father, Tom Cason; and his mother, Katherine Cason.
A graveside service will be held on October 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery, NW 226th Street, Alachua, Florida 32615, with Pastor Patrick Gimenez officiating. Military honors will be rendered out at the graveside as well.
Thad “Lagree” Cason will be remembered for his faithful spirit, his love for family, his years of service, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His memory will be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
