Sharon “Susie” Sapp Eiland
February 9, 1933 – August 22, 2019
Peacefully on August 22, 2019, Carl’s beloved wife, Tommy, Timmy, David, Sissy, Karen and Toi’s cherished mother and friend to all that knew her, Sharon “Susie” Sapp Eiland was received into a state of happiness and began her rest from troubles, care and sorrow in the arms of her savior and friend, Jesus Christ, after an extended illness.
Susie was born February 9, 1933 in Lawtey, FL to John Shipman Sapp and Bessie Virginia Rosier and was a lifetime resident of Bradford County. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gerow, Pencie, Jamie, J.D., Midge, G.W., J.S., Billy, Charles and Pat.
Susie graduated from Bradford High School in 1950 where she was a standout player on the girls’ basketball team. Shortly after graduation she went to work for the State of Florida, first at Sunland Center in Gainesville and eventually retiring from Lake City Community College after many years of service.
Susie enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing, quilting and traveling, especially to Blue Grass festivals with her husband in their camper.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carl Eiland; her children, Tommy (Robin) Eiland of Krum, TX, Timmy Eiland of Jacksonville, FL, Sissy (Steve) Pierce of Atlanta, GA, David (Kathy) Eiland of Sampson City, FL, Karen Stidham of Charlotte, NC and Toi Eiland of Lake Butler, FL; grandchildren, Tricia Boyd of Humeston, IA, Amber (Andrew) Whitsett of Little Elm, TX, Flora (Chris) Stadler of Beacon, NY, Ryan (Melanie) Pierce of Atlanta, GA, Brent Pierce of Olive Branch, MS, Brandi (Gary) Sutton of Sampson City, FL, Kyle McDonald of Rawlings, WY, Krystal McCauley of Lake Butler, FL and Ray (Amanda) McCauley of Lake Butler, FL; great grandchildren, Greysonn, Zarrod, Summer, Daley, Macon, Brylee, Taylor, Callum, Edison, Erin, Carter, Kendall and Dana; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.
A funeral service to honor Susie’s life will be held on August 26, 2019, at 11:00am at Evergreen Baptist Church in Lawtey, FL. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00am, prior to her service. The service will be officiated by Pastor Kris Elkins. Susie will be interred at the church cemetery immediately afterwards. A luncheon will follow interment at the Fellowship Hall of Evergreen Baptist Church.
