Larry Parrish, Sr., quietly left this world on August 12, 2025, much like he lived his life—without a lot of fuss. Born and raised in the small town of Brooker, Florida, he branched out after high school and joined the United State Coast Guard. He proudly served as a mechanic from 1969 - 1973. While stationed in Baltimore, Maryland, he met his wife Nancy. Together they had two sons, Larry, Jr. and Joey. He started his career as a mechanic for Florida Gas Transmission and after 40 years he retired as a consultant.
Larry found joy in the simple things: a good day of hunting, a quiet morning fishing, and a campfire surrounded by friends swapping hunting stories. His faith was an integral part of his life. Larry gave his life to the Lord at the age of 13, during a service at New River Baptist Church and later baptized in the Sante Fe River. He remained a dedicated member of New River Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Parrish; wife of 33 years, Nancy Parrish; his brother, J.T. Parrish; his parents, Herbert and Audrey Bell Parrish; brother-in-law, Dewey Bush; and sister-in-law, Linda Parrish.
Larry leaves behind his son, Larry Parrish, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Glenda; two grandchildren, Shelby Vatick and her husband Devon, and Justin Parrish and his wife Sierra; his sister, Barbara Parrish Bush; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
To family and friends, he was known as “Bud”. He wasn’t one for big crowds or fancy words, but if you were lucky enough to share a hunt, a fishing trip, or a seat by the fire with him, you knew exactly who he was—a good man who loved his family and the outdoors.
He will be deeply missed, but his stories and his quiet strength will live on in those who knew and loved him.
A visitation for friends and family will be held from 5pm - 7pm at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Thursday, August 14, 2025. A funeral service will be held at his church, New River Baptist Church, on Friday, August 15, 2025, beginning at 10am. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at New River Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Bro. Terry Blakeslee and Bro. Tim Duding to officiate.
