Mr. Ray Edwin Harris, age 83, of Raiford, FL, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2020. Raymond was born on August 11, 1936, to the late Curtis and Gracie Harris, on the Harris family farm in Raiford. After school, he moved to Orange Park to work for the Jacksonville Uniform Company. This is where he met his wife, Ms. Jessie Prue Harris. They married in 1966. Around 1980, they moved back home to the family farm and Raymond took a job in Baldwin at the steel mill, Florida Steel. He would work there until his retirement. He loved to ride around the Tri-County area. He also enjoyed sports. He was a big NASCAR fan, he loved the Florida Gators, and watching March Madness. He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jessie Prue Harris; his parents, Curtis and Gracie Harris; siblings, Clarice Griffis, Bernice Holder, and Leon Harris; and Jessie’s son, Rex Thomas.
Mr. Raymond is survived by his brother, Curtis “Joe” (Diana) Harris of Archer, FL; sister, Genice (Mike) Reid of Archer, FL; nieces and nephews, Joseph (Patricia) Harris of Raiford, FL, Kim Rust of AZ, Julie (Pat) Bustle of Palmetto, FL, James Edwin Holder of New Orleans, and Mandy Holder of Archer, FL; great nieces and nephews, Joseph and Rachel Harris of Raiford, FL, Tripp and Isabella of Palmetto, FL; sisters-in-law, Sherrie Harris and Sybil Smith; and his wife’s children, Philip and David Thomas.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 5th , at 10:00 AM at Conner Cemetery in Raiford. The family will have a visitation on Wednesday, March 4th , from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Archer Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Rev. Randall Griffis.
