Ms. Myrtice Beasley Dukes, age 90, of Lake Butler, FL, passed away on June 20, 2020, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL. She was born on October 25, 1929, in Lake City, FL to the late Lee and Viola Beasley Riggs. Ms. Dukes moved to Union County at an early age and was a lifelong resident. She is a graduate of Union County High and in 1951, married Lowell Langley Dukes. She was a homemaker, farmer, owned several businesses and set on the USDA Board of Agriculture of many years. She was a member of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church and served as the church treasurer for over 20 years. She was known as a hardworking, sweet southern lady who loved her family and will be deeply missed. Ms. Dukes is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Langley Dukes; her father, Lee Riggs; mother, Viola Beasley; step-father, Ben Riggs and her brothers, Earnest and Eddie Beasley.
Ms. Dukes is survived by her children, Eugene (Penny) Dukes of Lake Butler, FL, and Terrie (Doug) Gillen of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Matt (Kristin) Dukes of Lake Butler, FL, Whitney (Justin) Johnson of Gainesville, FL, and Ashley and John Gillen both of Gainesville, FL; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Turner, and Warren Dukes of Lake Butler, FL and Hadley Johnson of Gainesville, FL; one brother, Edgar (Carolyn) Beasley of Lake Butler, FL; numerous extended family also survive.
