Mr. Henry Hampton Harrell

Henry Hampton Harrell, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, February 25, 2013. He had fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Gainesville, Florida on September 13, 1944, he grew up in Brooker, Florida. The descendants of North Florida pioneer family, parents were J.C. Harrell and Zulena Susie (Waters) Harrell. He attended Lake City Community College (Gateway) and served on the town council for the city of Brooker in the seventies. Early in his career, he did construction work on the Eisenhower Interstate system and the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant. He was retired from the DOC. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he loved outdoor sports. He loved softball and played on many different teams in Alachua, Bradford and Union Counties. He coached the DOC employee's softball team for New River. They won the Police Olympics in Tallahassee 2 consecutive years. He also loved deer hunting with son-in-law Danny and good friend Lance. He looked forward every year to going to Illinois to get the "big one." He and his wife enjoyed traveling and going to Gator football games. His children and grandchildren were the sunshine of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Cephus and Zulena (Waters) Harrell, his brother, James, and step-mother, Edna Thomas Harrell. He is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Iva, two children; Michelle Williams, Christi (Danny) Griffis and grandchildren; Candice, Justin, Lane, Michael, Daniel, Gerad and one great grandchild. His sister Hilda (Robert) Fussell.
Services will be held at Madison Street Baptist Church Thursday, February 28 at 11:00 A.M.. Viewing will be from 9:30A.M. to 11:00 A.M at the church. Burial will be at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church near Brooker. Archer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 386-496-2008
