Henry Monroe Douglass, 73, Lake Butler, Fl. passed away peacefully on April 8, 2016 at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs, Fl. after a short illness, with his family by his side. Born July 4, 1942 to the late James Elijah Douglass and Elsie Lindsey Douglass. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers; Roy, Riley, Ressie, Daniel, John, Elisha, Frederick, Enoch Douglass and Frank Smith. His four sisters; Effie Powell, Bedie Douglass, Abbie Byers, and Virginia Southerland.
After graduating from Union County High School in 1961, he joined the United States Army. While a senior in high school, he worked at Donald Driggers T.V. Service. After serving in the Army he returned to Lake Butler to work for and later purchased the T.V. Service from Donald Driggers. In 1974 he established Douglass Equipment and made it a family owned business, which continues today.
Henry never met a stranger and to know him was to love him. He was a loved son, brother, husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Mary Louise Thomas Douglass. His daughter, Kimberla Douglass Braddy. His sons, Henry Monroe Douglass Jr. (Diane), Quinn Matthew Douglass (Terri), Christopher Bart Tanner (Donna) all of Lake Butler and Randy Oliver Tanner of Bellview, Fl. His brother, Jimmie Douglass (Clover) of Science Hill, KY. He had 15 Grandchildren, and 16 Great Grandchildren.
A visitation of family and friends will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler, Fl. from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A private graveside funeral service will be held at a later date. Funeral services are under the care of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler, Fl. (386) 496-2008
