Mearlean Georgia Griffis

Ms. Mearlean Griffis, age 82, of Raiford, FL, passed away on June 19, 2019, at the Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center in Macclenny, FL. Mearlean was born in Bradford County, FL, on May 18, 1937, to Edward and Georgia Thornton. After meeting her husband, Calvin Griffis, Jr., she moved to Raiford, FL, where she would spend the rest of her life. Mearlean enjoyed helping others. She also loved her church, New River NC Methodist, in Raiford, as well as singing and especially, cooking for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Griffis, Jr.; two sons, David Riley Griffis and Mark Calvin Griffis; both parents; and three brothers, Owen, Marion, and Leo Thornton.

Mearlean is survived by her son, Glen (Annette) Griffis of Raiford, FL; 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Waldron of Raiford, FL; and three brother-in-law’s, Gerald Griffis, Alvin Griffis, and Ressie Griffis. Numerous extended family members also survive.

A funeral service to honor Mearlean will be held on Friday, June 21, at 11:00 am at the Archer Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery. Brother Randall Griffis, Sr., will be officiating the services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer Funeral Home. 386-496-2008
