Matthew Gerald Dukes of Lake Butler, FL passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on November 10, 2025, at the age of 46. Born January 31st, 1979, in Gainesville, FL to C. Renee Newsom Rodriguez and Gerald R. Dukes, Jr.
Matt grew up in Gainesville, Fl and attended the Alachua County School System earning his diploma. He was an electrician by trade working for Barlow Electric and the Union traveling throughout the US. Matt accepted Christ at an early age and continued his walk with the Lord.
Growing up Matt kept himself busy; if he wasn’t playing football or hanging with his friends you could find him with his Papa on the farm and selling at the Farmers market which he really enjoyed or hunting and piddling around with his Grandaddy. Other hobbies Matt enjoyed were fishing and going to the beach or springs; loved the Gators, a good ol’ Nascar race and was an avid reader. Spending time with family and friends was a big part of his life. He loved his family and friends immensely. His greatest gift and blessing was when his boys were born; they were his pride & joy. Matt loved being with his kids, in the kitchen, on the grill or just laying around watching movies. Matt had many friends and never met a stranger. He had a charismatic charm, very smart, was down to earth and just great guy that was easy to talk to and could sure make you laugh.
He is survived by his cherished sons Alexander R. Dukes-Rivera and Andrew G. Dukes-Rivera. Sisters Angi Dukes and Julia Rodriguez, Grandmother "Nanny" Nancy Newsom, bonus dad George Rodriguez; special Uncles Bryant, Dean and Terry, loving aunts, cousins, bonus nieces and nephew, extended family, best friend Steve and a host of other close friends/homeboys. He was preceded in death by parents C. Renee Newsom Rodriguez and Gerald R. Dukes, Jr. Grandparents Gerald and Joyce Dukes (Papa & Nana), and Barney Newsom (Grandaddy). His Uncle Randy and cousin Branden.
Although his journey here on earth was short, his passing will leave a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
John 11:25-26- I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.
