Louise Mackey Brown, 93, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Louise was born on October 9, 1933, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. She attended Columbia High School, where she enjoyed playing on the girls' basketball team. In October 1954, she met the love of her life, Wilbur (Bill), at a military dance while he was home on leave. The two were married on December 3, 1954, beginning a beautiful lifelong journey together.
The couple began their married life in Lake Butler, Florida, before moving to Pahokee in 1959, where they stayed until 1978. During her years in Pahokee, Louise was very active in First United Methodist Church, where she pioneered a children's program called "Happy Helpers” and “Willing Workers”. After a brief time living in North Carolina, she moved to St. Augustine in 1979 and later to Bradford County in 1997.
Louise worked at Maxwell House Coffee as s Coffee Bean Grader supervisor until the birth of her second child. She then devoted herself to raising her four children and caring for her home, a role she embraced with all her heart. She was one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and, above all, a wonderful and loving mother whose kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her love for her family knew no bounds. Louise absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and happiness. She treasured every moment spent with them and took great pride in watching them grow. They were her greatest blessings, and she loved each one dearly. Her family was her world, and the love she poured into each generation will live on through them for years to come.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Louise was a lifelong United Methodist and a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a God-fearing woman who always put God first and lived her life with a strong spiritual foundation. She found great joy in collecting dolls, chinaware, and antiques, and loved spending time surrounded by her treasured collections. Nothing made her happier than being in the mountains, where she often said she felt closer to God. While there, she always enjoyed visiting the Billy Graham Retreat, whose ministry was especially meaningful to her.
She is survived by her four children, Michael Brown (Suzy), Patti Crosby (Eddie), Penny Colee (Sterling), and Sherri Jackson (Al); her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Crosby, Eddie Crosby, Jr., Corey Colee (Victoria), Brandon Colee, Allison Brennan (Peter), and Tyler Jackson (Emma); and her precious great-grandchildren, Beau, Lola, Charlotte, Ethan, Sophie, and Harley. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and countless dear friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilbur L. "Billy" Brown, Jr.; her siblings, Patsy Shull, Frances Brown, and Sammy Mackey; her granddaughter, Summer Elizabeth Crosby; and her great-granddaughter, Dove Dalton Jackson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who so lovingly cared for Louise and became like family: Katrina, Lillie, Lawanda, Tesha, and Chayla. Their kindness, compassion, and dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 10, at Grace United Methodist Church in St. Augustine, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Pastors David and Carolyn Williamson will officiate. A Burial Service will follow at Elzey Chapel Cemetery, located at 13372 SW 52nd Street, Lake Butler, FL 32054 at 2:00 pm.
Louise leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, unconditional love, and devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
