Leroy Windell Norris, age 66, passed away on May 5, 2026, at his home in Lake Butler, FL. Born on March 9, 1960, Leroy grew up in Lake City, graduating from Columbia County High School in 1979. He was a strong-willed man who fought his third battle with cancer with that same fierce spirit he was known for all his life.
Leroy spent 36 dedicated years working for the Department of Corrections. Though he retired in 2013, his love for his work pulled him back, and he was still employed there up until his passing. A dependable and loving soul, Leroy was the kind of man you could count on, always ready with a joke and a laugh to brighten your day.
A man of many passions, Leroy loved spending his free time hunting and fishing, enjoying the great outdoors like only a true country man can. For over 20 years, he gave his time umpiring baseball and softball games with the local recreation department, sharing his enthusiasm for the game with kids and families all around.
Leroy was blessed with a loving family who meant the world to him. His wife of 28 years, Sherry Norris, stood by his side through thick and thin. He is survived by their son, Christopher Lee Norris, and daughter, Summer Lynn Depew. Leroy was a proud grandpa to three granddaughters: Rylee Lynn Cannon, Hydee Shiree Norris, and Karter Jean Norris. Leroy held a close bond to his siblings Gayle Barry, Susan Holloway, Sandy Arth, Jonathan Norris and his wife Amber, Ray Holloway, Angie Wilks, Vicky Wilks, and Jerry Wilks.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lily Norris, his son Joshua Windell Norris, and sisters Donna Norris Baley and Wendy Brady.
Services for Leroy will be held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler, FL. Visitation will be on May 8, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM. Friends, family, and all who knew Leroy are invited to come together to celebrate a life well-lived, marked by faithful service, humor, and a love for family and community that never quit.
Leroy Windell Norris was one of a kind—funny, outgoing, and full of life till the very end.
