Judith Surmiak Koessler, 77, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Born on June 21, 1949, Judy lived a life marked by quiet faith, unwavering love for her family, and simple acts of kindness that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Judy was known for her sweet, soft-spoken nature and her remarkable ability to listen with genuine care. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly, and her faith guided the way she lived and loved. Her greatest joy was found in spending time with her family, whom she cherished above all else.

She found peace in God's creation and enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors. Gifted with talented hands, Judy was an accomplished seamstress who lovingly crafted beautiful dresses for herself and for others. Her kitchen was another place where her love was evident. She was an exceptional cook whose fried chicken became a favorite family tradition, and her homemade banana nut bread was a treasured Christmas gift that her grandchildren eagerly anticipated each year. 

Judy is survived by her granddaughter, Emily (Jason) Bordinat; her beloved grandchildren, Owen Johnson, Aubriella Johnson, Jace Bordinat, Kylie Baldree, Mckinsley Baldree, Devin Bordinat, and Logan Bordinat; along with other extended family members and friends who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Koessler; her daughter, Shillene McKowen; her son, John Matthew Koessler; and her grandson, Kaleb Koessler.

A celebration of Judy's life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe Mennonite Church in Lake Butler. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Following the service, Judy will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the church cemetery.

Though her gentle voice has been silenced on earth, Judy's legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
