Lake Butler

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joyce June Chambers, who left this world peacefully at her home in Lake Butler on November 3, 2025, just days shy of her 89th birthday. Born on November 6, 1936, at home in Bradford County, Joyce was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched many lives.

Joyce was more than a cherished family member; she dedicated a significant portion of her life to educating young minds. She worked as a substitute teacher for Union County Schools from 1988 until her retirement in 2018, where she thoroughly enjoyed teaching and instilling a love of learning in the hearts of her students. Her commitment to education was a testament to her nurturing spirit and passion for helping others.

An active member of First Baptist Church of Lake Butler, Joyce found joy and purpose in her faith and fellowship. She not only cherished her relationship with God but also deeply valued the connections she made with her church family.

When she wasn’t in the classroom or at church, Joyce could be found tending to her cherished flower beds, nurturing her garden with the same love and dedication she poured into all aspects of her life. Those flowers blossomed as brightly as the love she shared with her family.

Joyce is survived by her children—Joseph Wayne (Suzanne) Chambers, Lorraine Michelle Johns, and Gregory Morgan (Marilyn) Chambers; her grandchildren Michelle, Jessica, Shannon, Joshua, Rebecca, Sarah, David "Briar" Preston, Alan "A.J.," Bradley, and Kyle; and her son-in-law Mitchell Stewart. She was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild who brought her so much joy.

Joyce now joins her beloved husband, Billy Chambers, who she cherished for 41 wonderful years until his passing in 2001. She is also reunited with her daughter, Julia Marie Stewart, her son-in-law, David Johns; her parents, Roy and Mattie Morgan, along with her siblings, Roy Morgan, Jr., Ellen Bailey, and Judith Summerall.

Joyce June Chambers leaves behind a legacy filled with love, kindness, and countless cherished memories. As we reflect on the beautiful life she led, let us be comforted in knowing that her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor Joyce's life will take place at First Baptist Church Lake Butler on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
