Johnnie Griffis

Johnnie Griffis, age 83, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born on April 13, 1940, to the late Gordon and Alma Griffis. Johnnie dedicated a portion of his life to serving his country, with four years in the US Army followed by another four years in the National Guard. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a truck driver before eventually retiring and pursuing his passion for farming.

In his leisure time, Johnnie found joy in simple pleasures like watching westerns, especially Bonanza and engaging in the craft of making cane syrup. Johnnie enjoyed sitting and talking about life. He was always a listening ear and helping hand. He was known among family and friends as a jokester who always had a witty remark ready to bring smiles to those around him. Johnnie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He is preceded in death by his parents; his 9 siblings; and nephews, Leon and Mitchell Tillman.

Johnnie will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his daughters Amanda and Claudia Griffis; and his grandchildren Sugar Joe, Johnnie, Mason, and Johnnie. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Alayna; cousin, Carl Griffis and numerous extended family and friends.

Services to honor and remember Johnnie's life will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler. A visitation will take place from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service with military honors at Pine Grove Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Raiford. Bro. Randall A.
