It is with heavy hearts and warm memories that we gather to remember the life of John Palmer Knight, Jr., who left this world on June 17, 2025, after an extended illness. Born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 6, 1940, John lived a life filled with laughter, service, and love.

Having been raised on a farm in Orange Park, John carried with him the values of hard work and humility. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for four years as a navigator and paratrooper, where he learned courage and discipline that he would carry with him through all endeavors. A true jack of all trades, he spread joy and wisdom wherever he went.

John dedicated a significant part of his career to lighthouse restoration, breathing new life into the iconic lighthouses of Florida, including those in St. Augustine, Key West, Key Biscayne, and Jupiter. His touch can be felt in every stone he restored, as he honored the rich maritime history of his beloved state. He also served as a preacher at Harvest Christian Church in Jacksonville, engaging in homeless outreach and showcasing his unwavering commitment to helping those in need.

John was not only a man of service but also a man of joy. He had a funny knack for bringing smiles to faces—whether it was through light-hearted jokes or his infectious enthusiasm for life. His hobbies ranged from hunting to savoring time at antique and flea markets. Never one to shy away from a good meal, he loved to cook and share meals with family and friends. Always the adventurist, John also enjoyed riding motorcycles, sport jumping and competitive skydiving, and a good trip to the casino.

As a proud member of the Shriners and Masons, John’s dedication to community extended beyond family and friends, reflecting his belief in supporting and uplifting others. His many years volunteering at the Boys Ranch were a testament to his caring spirit.

John leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his children: Shawn (Lisa) Knight of Jacksonville, Jessica Knight of Starke, and Julie (James) Beighley of Raiford. His grandchildren—Shane Knight, Dalton Knight, Kody Colson, Madison Garber, Brittney Manning, John Manning, and Nolan Beighle and his great-grandchildren - Rose Knight, June Colson, Laklyn Frasco, Ellirie Manning, and one-on-the-way, John Manning, III, are living reminders of his enduring spirit and love.

Preceding him in death are his father, John P. Knight, Sr.; mother, Pauline Black; sister, Ethel Knight Stone Newsom; brother, Ernest Knight; and grandson, Connor Beighley.
