Gainesville

John Jeffery Bowers, known affectionately as Johnny, passed away on July 5, 2023, in Gainesville, FL. He was born on April 3, 1951, in Marianna, FL.

Johnny's educational journey began at Union County High School, where he graduated in 1969. He then pursued higher education at Lake City College before receiving his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. Johnny had a fulfilling career as an advisor for the University of Florida for both domestic and international students until his retirement. He dedicated many years of service to the institution and left a lasting impact on the students he mentored. His guidance and wisdom were greatly valued by those who sought his advice.

Described as having a dry sense of humor, Johnny had a unique way of bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His witty remarks and clever observations were always appreciated by friends and family. Beyond his professional pursuits, Johnny had a passion for plants and possessed a green thumb. His love for plants was evident in the lush oasis he created.

He is survived by his brother James Norman (Phyllis) Bowers of Ormond Beach, FL; sister Jenny (Fred) Berkheimer of Crystal River, FL; nieces Anita (William) McKinney of Brunswick, GA and Amy (Tim) Dudding of Whigham, GA; nephews Jimmy (Stephanie) Bowers of Lakeland, FL and Denny Bowers of Jacksonville, FL; as well as many great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
