John Gibson, known to many as "Pee Wee," was born on May 7, 1952, in Lake Butler, Florida. He departed this world on April 29, 2025, at North Florida Hospital in Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Pee Wee's life journey began soon after high school when he took his first steps into the workforce at Elixson’s lumber, where he spent several years developing skills that would serve him well throughout his career. With an adventurous spirit and a passion for the open road, he transitioned to driving trucks—a profession he dedicated over four decades of his life to. During this time in the timber industry, he earned the nickname "Marcell," which became his trucker handle.
A dedicated family man, Pee Wee found great joy in the company of his loved ones. He cherished moments spent during family barbecues and relished any opportunity for gatherings that brought everyone together. His hobbies included fishing, a pastime that brought him joy, as well as following football, with a particular enthusiasm for the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pee Wee is remembered by his devoted wife of 46 years, Brinda Gibson, who stood by his side through life's many challenges. He is also survived by his loving daughters, Angel Giles (Gabrielle) of Starke and Amanda Gibson (Cedrick Wade) of Lake City, who will carry forward his legacy. His grandchildren—Cameron and Lilah Wade, Barrett, Kimber, Kiara, Hailey, Stella Giles, and Julie Moran-Lovell—were a source of great pride and joy in his life. Pee Wee is further survived by his sisters, Diane Cochran (Roger) and Belinda Ergle (Dale), who shared countless memories with him and Lee Deaver, a special friend who became family.
Pee Wee was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Lillie Anne Swafford Gibson, and his siblings—Bobby, Terry, Wayne, and Kenny Gibson, along with Penny Smith.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pee Wee's life at the Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler, Florida. Visitation will take place on May 2, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at McKinney Cemetery.
