My mother passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Joann Cassata-Harbst-Edwards passed away peacefully at home. She had been in the care of Haven Hospice for seven months. She was born August 16, 1932 to Joseph Cassata and Glenda Thorton-Cassata in Erie, Pennsylvania. She had a half sister who was older than her and three younger siblings. She is survived by her son, Rick (Sandy) and her daughter Karen Citta (Nelson). She had five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. 

Mom is known for her gentleness, compassion, love for travel and gardening. She kept a date book and always sent birthday cards and was present at all family events. She gifted every newborn in our family with a Christmas stocking at Christmas to recognize them. Her favorite show over the past several months was Duck Dynasty! She was a patriot and supported our Constitution. She was definitely a prayer warrior like her mother and mother-in-law. We know that Mom is sitting at the feet of Jesus surrounded by her family member and friends that have gone on before her.

 She will be missed by her family and numerous friends. The family would like to thank all those who sent thoughtful messages and prayers.
