Macclenny

Joan (Kirkland) Long, age 76, passed peacefully on November 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 29, 1949, in Macclenny, Florida.

Joan lived a life marked by love, compassion, and generosity. She was a very loving and compassionate woman whose kindness touched the people around her. Her family was at the center of her life, and she loved spending time with them.

She graduated from Baker County High School and went on to build a life of hard work and service. Joan worked for many years as a beautician and a florist. She also served as the head of Winn-Dixie’s floral department for many years.

To say Joan loved the beach would be an understatement. Anything to do with the beach brought her great happiness. She also loved flowers and the simple joys they offered. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a faithful member of Baldwin First Assembly of God, where she served in many capacities and gave of herself with a willing heart. Joan proudly served on her church’s board as a deacon for over 10 years.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Danny Long; her sons, Ross Long, Timmy Chandler, and Adrian Chandler; her daughters, Destiny Chandler, Brittany (Tyler) Walker, and Brianna (Bryan) Smythe; her grandchildren, Mateo "Sugarman" Chandler, Robert Lacey Smythe, Theodore “Theo” and Percy Walker, and Tyree Jackson; and her sister, Wilma Rowe. Joan is also survived by her dear friends, Terri-Jo Braddock and Janice Griffis. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Sadie Kirkland; her brothers, Bobby Kirkland and L.W. Mobley.

A funeral to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on November 7 at 11:00 am at her church, Baldwin First Assembly of God. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the church on Friday, November 6, from 5–7:00 PM.

Pallbearers for Joan will be Robbie Kirkland, Bill Griffis, Jerry Griffis, Thomas Long, Fred Smith, and Terry Long. The church members of Baldwin First Assembly of God will all be honorary members.

Joan will be remembered for her loving spirit, her generous heart, her deep faith, and the joy she found in her family, her flowers, and the beach. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
