Jimmie Douglass

November 8, 1940 — March 24, 2023

Science Hill, KY

Jimmie Dryden Douglass, 82, formerly of Lake Butler and Gainesville, FL, passed away at his home in Science Hill, KY, on March 24, 2023, after a lengthy illness and with his family at his side.

He is survived by his wife Clover Douglass, his son Chris Douglass and daughters Dawn Douglass and Kimberly Carlson. His grandchildren are Jake Douglass, Landen Douglass, Sara Carlson and Olivia Marshall.

He was born in Jacksonville, FL, and lived in Lake Butler, FL, until 1958 when he entered the United States Air Force, after graduating from Union County High School. Later, he worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company, while earning degrees from Lake City Community College and the University of Florida. He also attended UF Law School for two years. He later became self-employed and bought Frank’s TV Shop in Gainesville, which he ran for several years. After that he ran a used car and truck business in Hague, FL. He and Clover retired to Kentucky in 2008.

More than anything, he enjoyed being with his family. He loved taking family vacations, going to the beach, the North Carolina mountains, and visiting relatives in New York and Connecticut. A few of his favorite memories include time spent on trips to Alaska, Glacier Park, the Grand Canyon, Idaho and the western states. He especially enjoyed coaching little league football at the Boy’s Club in Gainesville for many years.

A memorial service will be held at the gravesite at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lake Butler, on June 3 at 1 PM, under the direction of Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler.
