Jessie "Booger" Vernon Griffis

Mr. Jessie Vernon “Booger” Griffis, age 74, of Starke, Florida passed away on July 9, at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Booger was born on August 11, 1944, to the late Gordon Marlin Griffis and Alma Evelyn Tindel Griffis. He was a lifelong resident of Bradford County and drove a truck all his life. He was a fun loving man with a witty sense humor and never met a stranger. Booger loved to fish and watch westerns, especially John Wayne movies, and take care of his chickens. He was a member of Victory Revival Center C.H.C. in Starke, FL. He is preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Marion Griffis, Amon Griffis, and James Griffis; and sisters, Jean Griffis, Virginia Thornton, Agnes Hogan, and Sarah Sue Willingham.

Mr. Griffis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Ann Starling Griffis of Starke, FL; son, Jessie V. Griffis, Jr. of Brunswick, GA; daughters, Barbara Ann Griffis of Chicago, IL, Shonda Harvey of Jacksonville, FL, and Lisa Marie Griffis of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Zelda Rose, Nolan, Aubree, Rylee, Jason, Ashley, J.T., Jeffery, and Mandy; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnnie Griffis of Raiford, FL, Mitchell Tillman of Lawtey, FL, and Leon Tillman of Middleburg, FL; sisters, Janet Lorraine Sweat of Gainesville, FL, and Evelyn June Crews of Starke, FL; numerous extended family also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Griffis will be held on July 16, at 1:00 pm, at his church, Victory Revival Center C.H.C. in Starke. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 11:00 am, at the church. Brother Randall Griffis, Pastor, will be officiating the services.
