James Larry Kitchens, age 81, passed away on March 20, 2026, at Haven Hospice Lake City. Born on May 16, 1944, in Raiford, Florida, Larry spent a lifetime dedicated to construction, not just as a profession but as a calling that defined the very fabric of his existence. Even off the job site, he was never truly at rest—always working, always creating, always tinkering with mechanics, his passion for fixing and understanding the inner workings of things.

Larry was a man who loved people deeply, his talkative nature and knack for cutting-up made him a lively presence in any room. He was a pillar of strength and a source of joy, embodying a rare blend of hard work and heartfelt connection.

He leaves behind his family - his beloved wife of 33 years, Joan Smith Kitchens, his children, Buddy (Myra) Kitchens of North Carolina and Candi Kitchens Brooks of South Carolina. James was also a proud stepfather to Lisa Zimmerman of Houston, Tammy Whitehead, and Tina (Ken) Smith both of Lake Butler and Grandpa to 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They, alongside his immediate family, are the living testament to a life well-lived, a legacy forged in love and labor.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Myrtice Kitchens, and his brothers Vernon, Carl, and Don Kitchens. 

A memorial service will be held on March 30, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at Archer-Milton Funeral Home.
