Mr. Hurl R. “Butch” Mullins, age 74, of Sante Fe, FL passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with metastatic ocular cancer of the liver. He was born on Feb. 11, 1946 in Charleston, WV to the late Hurl and Maysel Brady Mullins. After graduating high school, Butch enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He returned home and began a career as a stone mason. He took pride in this and earned a reputation for excellence, creating many beautiful pieces of work including various fireplaces and other stone works. Some of his masonry work can be seen around the University of Florida. Later in life, he took a job and retired from the USPS as a letter carrier all while continuing his love for masonry. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Alachua Chapter 1092 Honor Guard and Color Guard. He loved serving in the color guard and was honored to serve as co-commander. He was a member of Blackwelder Freewill Baptist Church and attended the Congregation of the Living Word Messianic Assembly. He is preceded in death by both parents; his sister, Shirley Mullins; and granddaughter, Kassidy Smith.

Butch is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sharon Stidham Mullins of Sante Fe; children, Kristina (Richard) Gonzalez of CO, Daniel (Amy) Mullins of WA, Scott Goolsby of Sante Fe, and Sarah Goolsby of Sante Fe; grandchildren, Aiden, Mason, and Landon Lee Mullins all of WA, Trevor Smith and Cale Goolsby both of Sante Fe, Megan Spiegel, Kellie Wiker, Makayla Spiegel and Benjamin Spiegel ; siblings, Pat Patton of VA, Phyllis (David) Whilden of KY, Sheila (Buddy) Kidwell of TN, Pressley (Pat) Mullins of VA, and Darlene (Wes) Smith of Williston, FL; numerous extended family also survive.

A funeral service to honor Butch’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 am at North Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sante Fe. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, August 14, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Archer Funeral Home in Lake Butler. His interment will be in Williston.
