Harriet E. Brooks

Harriet E. Brooks, age 85, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on March 8, 2026. She was born September 2, 1940, in Lake Butler, Florida, to the late Martin and Elise Loadholtz.

Harriet was a dedicated and hardworking businesswoman who proudly owned and operated a local gas station in Gainesville, Florida, for 32 years. She was well known in the community for her dedication to her work and the relationships she built with customers over the years. Harriet was of the Christian faith and enjoyed the companionship of her Boston Terriers.

She is survived by her son, John “Curtis” Brooks (Jacqueline); grandchildren Brittany Sheffield (Justin) and Matthew Brooks (Destinee); five great-grandchildren, Jordyn Sheffield, Rhett Sheffield, Conner Sheffield, Carsen Sheffield, and Eli Brooks; and brothers Lowell Loadholtz and Shannon Loadholtz.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James E. Brooks; her parents, Martin and Elise Loadholtz; brothers Donald Loadholtz and Roger Loadholtz; and sister Thema Cooley.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church High Springs Fl on March 28th at 1pm.
