Mr. Harold E. Moates of Lake Butler, passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2021 at the age of 81. Harold was born and raised in Baker County to the late Rudolph Emmit and Reath Mae Alford Moates. After high school he moved to Lake City and there he worked and raised his family. Harold was a hard-working man who would do anything for his family and friends. He was a people person; even after retirement as a lube specialist, Harold worked at Winn-Dixie so he could greet everyone who came in. Harold would relax by watching the Young and the Restless or a good western. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dwayne Moates; grandson, Alan Holton; and brother, Ronnie Moates.
Harold is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Moates of Lake Butler; his sons, Wade (MaryAnn) Moates of White Springs, Scott (Laura) Moates of Lake City, Curtis (Nancy) Moates of Lake City, and Shane Moates of Lake City; his grandchildren, Stephanie Lane, Dillon Pitts, Jenna Moates, Jared Moates, Daniel Moates, Ashley Markham-Cummings, Shanna Pitts, Josh Holton, Miracle Holton, Malachi Moates, and Lindsey Moates-Petty; 18 great-grandchildren; his siblings, James Moates of Lake City, Annie Jo Brown of Sanderson, and Gladys Hand of Sanderson; and step-son, Chris Chikan of Connecticut.
A service to honor Harold will be held on at 4:00p.m. on Wednesday, July 7th at Watertown Congregational in Lake City. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, July 6th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Archer-Milton Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Butler. Bro. Randy Ogburn will officiate the service. After the graveside on Wednesday, the family will have a celebration of life service at the Deep Creek Community Center.
