Ezra “Ray” Mock, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Butler, Florida, on August 10, 2026. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, hard work, kindness, generosity, and devotion to his family.

Ray was born in Baxley, Georgia, to the late Bernice and Minnie Lou Mock. After graduating high school, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he began his career as a mechanic for Cadillac. A few years later, Ray was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for three years.

Upon returning home, Ray married the love of his life, Hilda. Together, they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered around family, hard work, and love until her passing in 2022. They resided primarily in Jacksonville, though throughout their married life they moved wherever work was available. For Ray, providing for his family was always a priority. He worked hard to make sure those he loved were taken care of and never went without.

In 1995, Ray and Hilda made Lake Butler their home after their children settled in the area. It was here that they continued building memories and watching their family grow.

Ray was a man of many talents. There seemed to be little he could not do, and whatever profession he attempted, he did it well. Over the years, he worked as a mechanic, carpenter, pipefitter, and commercial fisherman. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and doing a job well.

Of all the things Ray enjoyed, fishing held a special place in his heart. He thoroughly enjoyed being on the water and was a master at offshore fishing. Many happy hours were spent pursuing his favorite pastime, creating memories that his family will treasure for years to come.

Yet, those who knew Ray would say that his greatest gift was his heart. By all accounts, Ray was a saint. He was kind, sweet, generous, and big-hearted, always choosing to see the good in everyone. He had a gentle spirit and a way of making people feel cared for. He was the kind of man who gave without expecting anything in return and loved without condition.

Ray’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children, Debbie (Buddy) Broughton, Ezra “Gene” Mock, and Leslie (Robert) Fillyaw; and his grandchildren, Sabrina Broughton, Robert Broughton, Catherine Siereveld, Trey Collins, Ashley Mock, Amber Mock, Caroline Fillyaw, Abigail Fillyaw, Zoey Fillyaw, Gabrielle Fillyaw, and Cole Fillyaw.

He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Heather Boone, Trista Webb, Dalton Rose, Ryan Broughton, Miranda Green, Joselyn Collins, Haven Mock, Madelyn Mock, Stefen Siereveld, and Sabrina Siereveld; and his great-great-grandchildren, Alyda, Landon, Trenton, Ayden, Kaislyn, Kinley, Bryson, Karsyn, and Nova.

He is also survived by his sister, Sarah Lee Broward, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Minnie Lou Mock; his beloved wife, Hilda; and his ten siblings.

A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Archer-Milton Funeral Home.
