Edgar Allen Emmelhainz, Jr. passed away on September 11, 2026, in Lake Butler. He was born on November 4, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Emmelhainz lived a life marked by service, faith, and a warm, outgoing spirit. He was a proud Army veteran who served in Vietnam, and he later dedicated 30 years to the Department of Corrections as a Classification Supervisor. He was also a graduate of Florida State University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice. Those who knew him will remember his big personality and his gift for connecting with people. He was an outgoing people person whose presence left a lasting impression. His faith was an important part of his life, and he found joy in going to church and attending Bible studies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Emmelhainz, and by his parents, Edgar Emmelhainz, Sr. and Lillie Tyson Emmelhainz; and granddaughter Madelyn Harper.

He is survived by his children, Brigette Tucker and her husband Dylan, Edgar Allen Emmelhainz, III, Lillie O’Steen and her husband Rien, and Gwendolyn Lela Emmelhainz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ruth O’Steen and Priscilla O’Steen. May his memory remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 155 NW 1st St, Lake Butler, Florida. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment at Dekle Cemetery in Lake Butler will take place immediately following the service with military and Department of Corrections honors.
