Earl Devon Taylor, age 68, met his Savior face to face on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, after bravely battling cancer. Surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home, Earl's spirit entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy brimming with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on April 13, 1957, in Gainesville, FL, Earl grew roots in Alachua County, where he not only launched his life but also a dedicated career that spanned several decades. After four honorable years serving in the U.S. Marines, Earl continued his commitment to the nation while in the Army National Guard for several more. His service was just a part of the man he was—steadfast, dependable, and ready to lend a helping hand.
Earl spent 26 years working for Gainesville Regional Utilities ending his career there as a Safety Training Officer before taking a well-deserved retirement. But Earl wasn't one to sit idle for too long. He continued his journey of service, taking on the role of office manager in the medical quality assurance department with the Department of Health for an additional six years, showing that his dedication to the well-being of others never wavered.
Earl found joy not just in his work, but also in a myriad of hobbies. Whether he was racing stock cars, tending to his beloved garden or writing stories, Earl embraced life's simple pleasures with a smile. However, nothing brought him more pride than being “Papa” to his grandchildren. The bonds he nurtured with Madison (Chris) Roling, Connor Taylor, and great-grandson Christopher Roling filled his heart with immeasurable joy, and his legacy will live on through their lives.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Celeta Cruse Taylor, who stood by his side through thick and thin, as well as their sons, Steven (Dee) Taylor and Matthew (Brittney) Taylor. He is also survived by his dear sister, Jessie (Wes) Taylor, who shared countless memories with him throughout their lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mayola Jones Taylor, his brother George Taylor, and a baby sister.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the family will receive friends for a visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler, FL. A funeral service will be at First Baptist Church High Springs on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a visitation time one hour prior. Earl will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Spring Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
Earl Devon Taylor was a remarkable man whose impact reached far beyond his years. As we gather to remember him, may we all carry a part of his spirit in our hearts, honoring the remarkable journey of a man who lived fully and loved deeply.
