Winter Haven

Dr Benjamin M. Crowder, age 85, of Winter Haven, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. 

Ben was an ophthalmologist in Winter Haven, FL, for nearly 50 years.  He loved being a doctor, his family & friends, and the Florida Gators.  

He was born on November 8, 1938, in San Diego, CA, and attended Hampden Sydney College, the Univ of FL undergrad & medical school, and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.  He served as an officer in the US Navy for two years.  And, he served on the Board of Trust of the Winter Haven Hospital and as Chair of the hospital Surgical Section.  

He’s preceded in death by his parents, Maclin & Virginia Crowder, and younger brother, George Crowder.

He’s survived by his wife Ellie Crowder, sons Scott (Ginny) Crowder & Jon Crowder, sister Susan (Frank) Black, stepson Billy (Annemarie) Carr, stepdaughter Amanda (Will) Rhodes, 4 nieces & nephews, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9th, at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven, 637 6th St NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881.
