Obituary

David Daniel "Davy" Freeman, born on March 2, 1979, in Winter Garden, FL, passed away peacefully at his home in Boise, ID, on May 22, 2026. His journey through life was marked by a steadfast dedication to service, an adventurous spirit, and a distinctive dry sense of humor that touched everyone who knew him.

David’s early years in Florida blossomed with promise, culminating in his graduation from Union County High School in 1997, where he distinguished himself not only academically but also as a member of the honors band. Fueled by a deep sense of duty, he enlisted in the United States Marines after high school, proudly serving his country for four years. Following his honorable military service, David pursued higher education, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Mathematics from Arizona Western College, a testament to his disciplined mind and determined character.

Professionally, David committed his talents to the Veterans Affairs, where he worked diligently as a benefits coordinator. His role was more than a job; it was a continuation of his lifetime commitment to those who had served, ensuring they received the support and recognition they deserved.

David’s personality was vividly marked by a blend of dry wit and an ever-curious nature. Unafraid of challenges, he embraced life fully, always willing to test his limits. He enjoyed presenting his best self to the world, known for his keen sense of style that matched his confident demeanor. Outdoors were David’s sanctuary—a place where he found joy in hiking and biking, exhilarating skydiving adventures, and the relentless grueling of Iron Man triathlons. A loyal fan to the end, he cheered fervently for the Florida Gators, even while far from home in Idaho.

He is survived by a loving family circle who cherished him deeply. Among those left to celebrate Davy's life are his mother, Bonnie Smith; his siblings Doug Freeman, Melissa (Jason) Woltz, and Michelle Smith (Del German); and his grandfather, Leslie Shadd. David was the proud uncle, affectionately known as Uncle Buddy, to his nephews and niece Kelvi, C.J., Gavin, Robert, Lilyana, and Josiah. His family tree extends warmly to aunts and uncles Lori (Harold) Archer, Becky (Eddie) Lee, and Marsha Shadd, along with numerous cousins and extended family who carry forward his memory. In Idaho, his best friends—Brandon and Christina Williams and their sons Cole and Lucas, together with Ed and Terri Ahrens—were extended family, providing a network of love and friendship.

David’s heart was also linked to those who have passed before him, including his grandmother Carolyn Peeples Jarrard; uncles Mitchell, Darrell, and Jeff Shadd; and his great-grandparents David and Mae Shadd, and Daniel and Lorena Peeples; along with his beloved dog, Zona, who brought joy and companionship.

A visitation to honor David’s life will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. David will be laid to rest following the service at Ft. Call Cemetery with military honors. These gatherings will serve as a space for all who knew him to share stories, laughter, and tears in memory of a man who lived with courage, embraced life’s challenges, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
