Correne Stringer, age 73, passed away on November 9, 2023, at Haven Hospice in Lake City after an extended illness. Born on September 3, 1950, in Lake Butler, to the late Lonnie and Georgia Martin Waters, she lived with a savior's heart, and all who knew her speak of her kindness, compassion, and love for her family. Correne graduated from Union County High School in 1969. Afterward, she embarked on a career path that took her from being a waitress to joining the Department of Corrections. She served diligently as a dietician before becoming a correctional officer until her retirement due to health issues. Her dedication and commitment to her work left an indelible mark on those whose lives she touched.
In her leisure time, Correne enjoyed the peacefulness of the beach. Whether it was strolling along the shore or basking under the warm sun rays, being near the ocean brought solace to her heart. But what truly made Correne bloom with joy was being able to spend time with her grandchildren, creating memories that she treasured dearly. Correne touched the lives of many with her southern charm and benevolent nature. In her home, she would feed you when you weren't hungry, make you a bed when you weren't staying, and give multiple hugs when you would be right back. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved.
Correne was born and raised in a true American family that honors hard work, provides for those in need, and praises God for the blessings provided on this Earth. Memories of her will be cherished among her children, Joe Spradley of Lake City, Terri Sparkle (Mike) Eason of Lulu, Adam (Deitra) Stringer of Lake Butler, and Lonnie (Pam) Stringer of Panama City; her grandchildren; Hayden Bucchi, Jase Bucchi, Kinsley Stringer, and Mason Stringer and her siblings, Ted (Jean) Waters and Robert (Pat) Waters; Joan (Peter) McDonald; Margaret Stansel; Jeanette (Jake) Bielling; Madeline (Mark) Richardson along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Correne is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Georgia Waters; and her siblings, Earl Waters, Alvin Waters, Eloise Monds, and Mary Jane Waters.
