Bennie Adams

Mr. Bennie Adams, age 88, of Alachua, FL, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on January 22, 1936, in Erin, TN, to Okla Homa and Verble Golden Adams. At the age of 11, his family moved to Florida looking for work and they settled in the Titusville area. Mr. Bennie began working at a young age in construction. That work ethic would prove valuable as he had a successful career specializing in the asphalt industry. While working on a project in Palatka, Mr. Bennie stopped in at a diner and met the love of his life, Mary Sue Crawford. The couple would go on to enjoy 61 years of marriage. After his retirement in 1997, they relocated to Alachua. Mr. Bennie was know as “Mr. Fix It”. He was a talented handyman who enjoyed woodworking, mechanicing, and tinkering with small engines. He was a member of New Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert Dale Adams; and his brothers, Bob, Bill, and Brooks.

Mr. Bennie is survived by his loving wife, Sue Crawford Adams of Alachua; his children, Deborah (Carlton) Smith of NC, Carol Jean of GA, Judith of NC, Bennie Ray (Melinda) Adams of Bartow, FL, Raymond Bradley (Diana) Adams of Lakeland, and Randall Lee (Stacy) Adams of Bessemer, AL; his 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren ; sister, Betty Cole of Griffin, GA; numerous extended family also survive.

A funeral to honor Mr. Bennie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 12:00pm at his church, New Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Elixson, pastor, officiating.
