Mr. Alvin Wayne Smith, 69 of Lake Butler formerly of Gainesville passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at his residence. He was born on October 22, 1945 in Beckley, West Virginia. He served as Chief of Police for the Waldo Police Department for 17 years, and before that he had 30 years with the Gainesville Police Department. He was currently employed with the U.S. Federal Marshalls Office where he has been since 2007. Mr. Smith was a member of the Elks Lodge in Gainesville. He is preceded in death by his father Fred Dewey Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years: Tammi Westfall Smith; Son: Richard M. Smith of Waldo; Mother: Oleda Beatrice Smith; Brother Charles Smith (Lanay) of Gainesville; Sister: Barbara Biron (Scott) of Marietta, South Carolina.

Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 2:00pm at Archer Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place following funeral services at Elzey Chapel Cemetery. Family invites friends for a visitation half an hour before the funeral service. The arrangements are under the care of Archer Funeral Home, Lake Butler. 386-496-2008
