Alice Elizabeth Sykes, born on January 23, 1946, in Bluefield, West Virginia, departed this world on March 7, 2026, at her home in Lake Butler, Florida. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Alice dedicated over 20 years of her life as the store manager for Gate, where her unwavering commitment and leadership were a source of inspiration to her colleagues and customers alike. Her professional journey also demonstrated her tenacity as she returned to school at the age of 38 to earn her high school diploma in 1984, proving that it is never too late to pursue one's dreams.
As a person, Alice embodied the essence of an unselfish matriarch. Those who had the privilege of knowing her described her as a take-charge individual, capable of handling any obstacle to come her way. She was deeply devoted to her family, caring for them above all else. Alice's warmth and nurturing nature created a loving environment that always welcomed others in.
In her personal life, Alice found joy in various hobbies that reflected her creative and resourceful spirit. She had a green thumb, capable of growing anything in her garden, and her talents extended into arts and crafts as well as woodworking. She took pride in old-time ways, infusing her everyday life with tradition and authenticity.
Alice is survived by her cherished daughter, Tina Terrell. She was beloved Grandma to: Stephen and Christine McSpadden, along with their children, Kersey, Kelsey, Christopher McSpadden, and Angelina Terrell (Chris Solomon), and their children, Autianna Terrell, Kayeli, Graceleigh, Kingston Solomon and Gabrielle Sweetman and Tyler Sweetman. She is also survived by her dear brother, Joseph Quesenberry.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Quesenberry, as well as her sisters, Wanda Hardey and Tammy Horne.
Her funeral services will be held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home on March 13, 2026, with a visitation from 1 PM to 2 PM followed by a funeral service at 2 PM, where family and friends can gather to honor and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman. She will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Williams-Tyre Cemetery.
Alice Elizabeth Sykes leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends.
